Ms. Priya Prakash Royal, Esq., LL.M. founded the Royal Law Firm PLLC as a tax, trusts & estates, and business law firm after extensive experience representing clients in diverse areas of the law, including commercial transactions and litigation, corporate tax including mergers and acquisitions, trusts and estates, guardianship matters, and related areas. Ms. Royal is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Her admission to the Maryland Bar is pending. She represents clients in Maryland and Virginia through well-established relationships with experienced Maryland and Virginia attorneys. She received a Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Masters in Law in Taxation (LL.M.) from Villanova University School of Law in Pennsylvania and completed her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) at Rutgers University in New Jersey with majors in Journalism, Political Science, and Philosophy. She is conversant in Hindi, Tamil, Spanish, and French. Ms. Royal previously served as an attorney in the Estate and Gift Tax division of the Internal Revenue Service, As an IRS Estate Tax Attorney, she examined estate and gift tax returns, challenged asset valuations, and made tax assessments. She worked on several special projects including developing course materials for incoming IRS attorneys, working on a complex team audit of a prominent estate worth over $100 million, and supervising a group of Estate Tax Attorneys. She was instrumental in a project to develop a better understanding of the implications of income tax law in estate and gift tax and encourage better collaboration between the various tax divisions to help taxpayers by expediting the process. In accordance with IRS rules, she ceased her private tax practice during the time she served as an IRS attorney but continued her law firm as a corporate and commercial law firm. Prior to beginning her law firm, Ms. Royal worked at medium and large law firms in New Jersey on complex commercial litigation, tax, estate planning and estate administration matters. She structured estate and gift plans including endowment agreements, irrevocable trusts such as life insurance trusts and counseled clients on annual gifting to minimize estate and gift tax liabilities. She has also successfully disputed assessments by taxing authorities involving complex income and estate tax issues. Ms. Royal aimed to develop a law firm that would provide clients with the quality of services provided by larger law firms while also incorporating the lower cost and more personalized service model of a smaller law firm. She accomplished this goal by developing liaisons with well-established practitioners focusing in other related areas of the law and in other jurisdictions. With the informed consent of the Firm's clients, the Royal Law Firm PLLC is able to provide significantly expanded legal services which enables the clients to retain the Firm as their one stop legal resource for practically, all their legal needs. Ms. Royal has authored articles for the New Jersey Law Journal and the American Bar Association, Section of Litigation, and served as a panelist for the Benjamin Franklin American Inn of Court among other engagements. In her spare time, she volunteers to mentor law students, serves on the executive board of a well-established film and animation non-profit created to help amateur filmmakers, animators and screenwriters called Project Twenty1, and has been actively involved with various charitable organizations, including Partners for Women and Justice (helping victims of domestic abuse) and the Animal Legal Defense Fund (preventing cruelty to animals). Attorney Royal has completed extensive business valuation courses through the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts and anticipates completing her Masters in Business Administration shortly.
