We Indians love our TV shows. No matter how much we curse them, we all have some shows that we absolutely love and don’t like to miss.
Fortunately, there’s a way to still watch all the shows that you love.
Most TV channels these days have their own OTT platforms. So fortunately, you don’t have to go searching the internet for links on different websites and worrying about your systems getting infected with a stupid virus.
While some OTT platforms are available in USA (like Hotstar), there are some that still aren’t available here.
Sun TV, SonyLIV, Voot, Zee5, these are all OTT platforms that show your favourite TV shows, but the content on these platforms is generally geo-restricted.
Some platforms also put up their shows on YouTube. For example, Sony and SAB TV put up their shows on YouTube 48 hours after they’ve aired on TV in India. You can wait for 2 days and catch up on your show. However, if you too, like us, can’t wait for 48 hours to watch your favourite TV shows, then you have a few options:
1) Subscribe to TV channels here: Almost all your favourite TV channels are available on cable here. You just need to subscribe to them. However, as we all know, Cable subscription here in USA is quite costly. But if money is not that much of a concern, then this is the best option for you. DISH is your best option as they have tie-ups with most Indian channels. You won’t feel like you are missing out on anything.
2) Subscribe to Sling TV: Sling is an OTT platform here in USA that has tie-up with most Indian TV channels. You can live stream all your favourite TV shows the same time as they are aired here in USA. The drawback is that these shows are not available on Demand – which in today’s world is a bit absurd.
3) Install a good VPN: Install a VPN and spoof your IP to India. This is the best and the cheapest hack anyone will tell you. There ae plenty of VPNs available online. You just need to install one of them on your browser as an extension and select India as the country and voila – you’ll be able to watch all your favourite tv shows and web series here in India for free or for very little money.
There are a bunch of free VPNs available on the Internet. TunnelBear, Setup, Avira are a few that you can use.
And Yes, it works on YouTube as well i.e. you can watch geo-restricted content on YouTube with a VPN too. However, the trick is to not cast them on TV. The moment you cast it on your TV, some VPN seem to lose their connection. So be sure of that.
I recently saw Kota Factory by TVF using one of the VPNs for free on YouTube when it released in India. It had a delayed release here in US and that too you had to pay a subscription fee on their Platform. And we didn’t want to pay any money to access content that we knew we can watch for free.
