I have been practicing law since 1990 and LOVE cases that other attorneys have called impossible. Most of my practice involves immigration cases that have a criminal aspect and criminal cases that have an immigration aspect.
There is a terrible misconception that aliens with crimes cannot win their cases. This couldn't be further from the truth. However, winning immigration cases when there are crimes involved requires an in depth understanding of both criminal and immigration law.
Even if you've already lost your case and you've been told there's nothing more that can be done, visit us for a second opinion.

Julia Kefalinos criminal defense and bankruptcy firm was established in 2006 after 16 years of service to the community as a Miami-Dade County Assistant Public Defender. From 1991-2006 Julia defended thousands of indigent people accused of crimes and unable to hire private lawyers or defend themselves. She vigorously prepared all aspects of their cases from investigation to depositions to trials. She has handled huge caseloads including felonies, traffic cases, juvenile delinquencies and domestic violence matters.Julia particularly enjoyed training new attorneys and she eventually became a lead attorney in a specialized division for 5 years. Of her experience there she states:"I feel privileged to have worked for such a prestigious office. It is an office which dedicates all its resources to protecting the constitutional rights of indigent citizens and I believe very strongly in this cause. My work there helped me learn how to connect with people in every aspect of the court system, including judges, prosecutors, victims, witnesses, court personnel, those accused of crimes and their families. This experience strengthened my confidence and removed any shred of fear or confronting difficult situations, especially in the courtroom".As a law student at American University Washington College of Law, she focused on Constitutional Law, Interned for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, Represented Veterans before the Board of Veterans Appeals in their quests for benefits, represented Government Employees fighting unfair demotions and terminations and Interned with the Copyright Royalty Tribunal where her job was to rewrite legislation into plain English. It is clear from all of these choices that her goal is to defend those who need her help to defend themselves. In 2006, it became obvious to Julia that there was a strong need in the community for a bankruptcy attorney who would not victimize those who have already been gouged by greedy lenders, brokers and others. Bankruptcy, Loan Modification, Foreclosure Defense and related Fraud Defense were a natural addition to her practice. What motivates Julia?"Over time, I grew to understand that I would be perfect for this profession because of my strong personality and leadership skills. I love to argue, negotiate, write and especially defend those who need my help to defend themselves. This last part comes from my father. He was an immigrant from Greece, an earthquake refugee, an underdog; like those I like to fight for most."

I worked in law school for a US Congressman and gained both friends and insight into Washington politics. I was an investigator for the National Comm'n on the Causes and Prevention of Violence studying the causes and consequences of the events of the Democratic National Convention in 1968. For approximately 6 months in 1975 I was Acting Director of the Defender Division of the National Legal Aid & Defender Ass'n. I have always strived to see fairness and simple justice in our legal system and it is a constant battle. Much of my practice is currently labor and employment law and in January of 2008, I was granted the right and privilege to be counsel to L. 743, Teamsters. I have left that position but enjoyed it greatly. I have worked with members of the IFOP to establish basic rights for members which presently exist only for those covered by federal laws such as First Amendment speech rights and the right to be free from retaliation. I have an important case pending in the 7th Circuit on this very issue.

While living in Spain and Andorra, I learned Spanish and Catalan, and would spend parts of my summers attending schools in England and Italy where I learned the respective languages. I was a competitive alpine ski racer and played varsity soccer and rugby until I moved to the United States in 1983. I attended the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) receiving my Bachelor Degree in Political Science. Before attending Law School, I worked at a large firm in Los Angeles for 4 years before attending St. Louis University School of Law. I have been practicing law in Missouri as a member of the Missouri Bar since 1997, and have practiced exclusively for the past 21 years representing clients in Criminal & Family Immigration, Deportation/Removal Defense, Criminal Defense of Foreign Nationals, and Federal Immigration Litigation. My law partner Kimberly Cofman, is also my wife, and we have two beautiful teenage children currently attending high school.

A 2002 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law, I have created a practice that focuses on family issues, whether it's a divorce or custody matter, a criminal case, or even a personal injury. My goal is to resolve these disputes in a way that impoves the lives of my clients.
I am a general practice attorney, and have represented hundreds of clients over the years in a wide variety of situations. I work primarily in the fields of civil litigation, family law, personal injury, and criminal defense, but my firm also handles business litigation and contract disputes, real estate and property transactions, and wills and trusts. Watson & Watson is a small family firm with over 45 years of experience. We have low overhead, so we offer excellent rates. We would be happy to give you a free consultation any time over the phone.
