In late 2015, Carreyrou began a series of investigative articles on Theranos, published in The Wall Street Journal on the blood-testing startup founded by Elizabeth Holmes. The articles questioned the company's claim to be able to run a wide range of lab tests from a tiny sample of blood from a finger prick.
"She had a vision for a diagnostic device that would run the full range of blood tests from just a drop or two of blood pricked from the finger, and she worked on that technology for 10 years until her company reached a $10 billion valuation in 2014, and she rocketed to fame as the world's youngest self-made female billionaire. It was a great Silicon Valley success story until I came along."
