After growing up in New Hampshire, I attended college in Montreal and graduated from Seattle University School of Law in 2012. Never one to settle down for too long, I have lived in five states, the District of Columbia, and three other countries. For the time being, though, I feel immensely lucky to call Port Townsend my home. While I absolutely love to argue in (and out of) court, I am most passionate about working with clients. A lawyer has to be able to explain the legal system, to understand a client's goals, and to approach each problem with the client's interests at the forefront. This is a service industry, and I am proud of my ability to connect with the people I serve. My first love is criminal defense, but I am also available to help people with family law and landlord-tenant issues.

I am an employment and commercial litigation attorney. My employment practice is focused on wrongful termination, sexual harassment and wage and hour counseling and litigation primarily on behalf of plaintiffs.  In May 2019, I obtained a $5.375 million settlement of a PAGA action on behalf of employees of a subsidiary of Menzies Aviation (Aircraft Service International). Although 75% of all PAGA settlements are required by statute to be paid to the state, the employees received an average payout of nearly $700 per employee. Since there were many employees who were only employed for a month or two, roughly half of the employees received over $1,000, with dozens of employees receiving awards in excess of $1,600.   I also provide counseling and litigation expertise to employers and employees on non-competes and in trade secret disputes related to employee hirings and terminations. My commercial litigation practice is centered on the representation of real estate developers and commercial property owners in contract disputes, business tort claims and unlawful detainer proceedings.

Dont let all the grey hair fool you.  Im not as senior as a lawyer as I look.  The practice of law is a second career for me but that gives me a greater ability to relate to non-lawyers and real world problems our clients have. My practice focusses on real estate litigation, including landlord-tenant issues and general civil litigation.  Since 2014 I have served as a hearing examiner with the City of East Palo Alto, deciding petitions submitted by residents of the City under the local Rent Stabilzation Ordinance.  I also provide similar services to the City of Alameda based on their own Ordinance. I practice law with my Wife, who is a senior attorney, despite her lack of grey hair.  Discussions are ongoing as to which of us is the senior partner.

Aaron has dedicated his practice to representing individuals against the wealthy and powerful, whether they be corporate, governmental, or an individual. After passing the California and Oregon bars in 2012, Aaron opened his own practice, Alecto Law, which he successfully ran for four years. The name Alecto (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alecto) reflects Aaron’s passion for going to trial against greedy bullies who would hurt their own customers and clients for profit. In 2016, Aaron joined a non-profit in San Francisco (The Eviction Defense Collaborative) and provided court representation to at least 75 tenants facing eviction. With a preference for Plaintiff’s work (as opposed to defense), Aaron then joined Dawson & Rosenthal in 2017 in order to take on insurance companies for wrongfully denying claims in pursuit of profit.Aaron received his Bachelor’s degree from Lewis & Clark College in 2007 and his law degree from Santa Clara Law in 2011. During law school, Aaron interned at the Inter American Court of Human Rights in Costa Rica, and repeatedly won awards for his oral advocacy, including Best Oralist at the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition in New York. He served as co-president of the Environmental Law Society and received awards for outstanding academic achievement and the Pro-Bono Recognition Award. Aaron is licensed in Arizona, California, and Oregon and has assisted in multiple jury trials.

I put a high priority on communicating with the client.  Not only do I return phone calls and emails promptly, but also I initiate contact to keep them updated and in the loop.  The attorney-client relationship is a team, and it works best where each understands their role and communication lines are open. My rates are quite reasonable because I have a home office and resulting low overhead.  I also am very efficient in my work, which results in a smaller bill for the client.  Law firms typically bill twice as many hours as I do for the same quality work, and their hourly rates are higher to boot.

I am a skillful, experienced, and concerned attorney serving individuals and others in the most difficult areas of everyday life: criminal defense, employment and work disputes, consumer protection, family law, and small business issues. My end goal is always the same -- obtaining the best and fairest outcome for every client, and with the least possible drama and expense. Each case is unique with it own particular facts, background story, and legal and practical challenges. And in almost every case, the client's underlying problem and his or her need to deal with the legal system are profoundly stressful experiences, with high stakes and heightened emotions.  I devote myself to each case. I will listen to you and treat you as an individual. And throughout my representation, I will always try to make you aware of the very real consequences of different possible courses of action. I respect each client's need for information and communication, always recognizing that in every case the ultimate decisions, as well as the ultimate practical consequences, belong to the client.
